The most exciting day of the year for students is arguably Field Day! Beautiful weather, friends and competition between classes make for a great day. Field Day culminated with the official senior farewell which included speeches from the student council president, senior class president, the pinning of the seniors’ junior sisters and the final walk through the halls of Academy of Our Lady. Spirit week was held April 23-26. Daily themes included Timeless Tuesday, Woah Wild Wednesday, Tropical Thursday and class colors for field day! Needless to say, it was an exciting week filled with school spirit! Click on the tile of this post to view photos.

Academy of Our Lady’s Key Club attended their annual convention in Natchez, Mississippi on April 4, 5 and 6. As a club, they won the distinguished key club award, second place in the scrapbook contest, first place in the video making contest for the Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee District. While there, junior Amber Verdin was pinned as Lt. Governor for the Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee District and Moderator Mrs. Judi Zimmerman won District Convention Key Club Kiwanian Advisor of the Year. Senior Victoria Parria won one of the District Kiwanis club Leadership Scholarships and freshman Olivia St. Germain, the key club president, won the outstanding freshman award for the Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee District. Newly accepted students for the 2019-2020 school year attended Welcome Night on campus on April 24. Parents and students perused uniform and spirit wear selections. Teacher and administrators gave a presentation regarding important information for the upcoming school year. Following the presentation, scholarship recipients were announced. Abby Heitmeier, a senior at Academy of Our Lady, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to service their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Boys and girls ages 3-12 are invited to spend the summer at Academy of Our Lady's Summer Camp. With two sessions June 3-28 and July 8-26 campers will participate in a number of activities including swimming, arts & crafts, sports, skits, line dancing, game room, field trips and more! The final pep rally of the 2018-19 school year was held April 11. All spring athletic teams as well as the robotics team were honored by their peers. Senior athletes were also recognized for their dedicated to the Academy of Our Lady athletic program. Perhaps the most exciting portion of the pep rally was the unveiling of the bowling team’s 2019 State Championship banner and the softball team’s 2019 district championship banner. Senior Thanh Vo placed second in Physics and junior Emily Mailhos placed first in Sociology in division three at the 2019 Louisiana State Rally at Louisiana State University on April 6. State Rally is an academic competition which includes more than 80 events. Students take part in ten district rallies throughout the state with more than 5,000 district winners advancing to the State Rally. Congratulations ladies!
