Friends, family and members of the Academy of Our Lady community gathered on campus Saturday, March 27 for the school’s annual Basket & BBQ Bash. Guests vied for more than 40 raffle baskets including newly introduced premium baskets which included a Becky Fos signed print and two baskets with more than $300 in gift cards. Academy of Our Lady students in Sr. Janna San Juan’s Environmental Science class are participating in Jefferson Parish’s 4-H Coastal Studies of Southeast Louisiana program with the help of Ms. Heather Egger, a Jefferson Parish 4-H Agent. Today students, faculty and staff celebrated Academy of Our Lady’s feast day and the Feast of the Annunciation with two mass ceremonies to accommodate everyone safely. The Law Intern class ventured off campus to visit the Jefferson Parish 24th Judicial District Court. Students observed a motion and saw first-hand what takes place when someone takes a plea. Judge Grefer, assistant district attorneys and Chief Judicial Administrator Renee Aguilar, who is an alumna and current AOL parent, took time to visit with the students, answer questions and explain the innerworkings of the court. Spring at Academy of Our Lady may be a busy time but it's also a time filled with fun, family and laughter. Members of the Stars and Stripes club visited the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse March 13. While on the base, students attended a tour of an F15 guided by a pilot and a female crew member. They also stood on the F15 ramp to watch F15 jets take off. Members of the 159th spoke to the Stars and Stripes Club about the guard, their jobs and participated in a Q&A session. For more photos click on the tile of this post.

The Thalian Society is rehearsing for the spring musical, a show featuring popular contemporary songs, Don’t Stop the Music on Friday, March 26. Students currently enrolled in Computer Programming with Sr. Michelle have learned Swift which is a language of programming. They are now currently constructing robots that they will program using Swift after they are built. For photos click on the title of this post.

Academy of Our Lady Cheer performed in Dallas, Texas on March 6 and 7 in the National Cheerleaders Association National High School Competition. The Penguin cheerleaders participated in two categories placing second in the nation in Game Performance Intermediate Non-Tumbling and tenth in Game Day Large Varsity. Girls in 4th-7th grade are invited to experience a fun night filled with all things Academy of Our Lady Penguins and the Salesian family Spirit at Penguin Palooza on Friday, April 9 at 6:30-8:30 pm. The cost to attend is $10. Registration is required. Registration includes a limited-edition Penguin Palooza mask. Registration will be accepted online until Wednesday, April 7. Before venturing to Dallas, Texas to compete in the NCA High School National Competition, Academy of Our Lady Cheer held a performance showcase for family and friends on Wednesday, March 3. Faculty and staff members received the COVID-19 vaccine here on campus the morning of March 1! It’s was great day at Academy of Our Lady!

Seniors Emily Lubag, Patricia Lubag and Hannah Bassett received a surprise delivery from Nicholls State University. The red box contained a notification that each student received an academic scholarship worth a notable monetary amount. Emily Lubag received $51,600, Hannah Bassett received $45,600 and Patricia Lubag received $26,080 over the span of four years. Congratulations ladies! We are proud of you!
