Sr. Chantal Mukase, FMA, a member of Mother General’s council, visited Academy of Our Lady on April 8-10. The Salesian Sisters are based in Rome where the Superior General and councilors reside. Mother General sends a member of her council to visit every house and school on her behalf within a six-year period. Salesian Sisters are present in 89 countries and five continents. Sr. Chantal begin her visit with a meet and greet with the faculty and staff on the morning of April 8. Following the meet and greet, a school assembly was held in her honor. While on campus Sr. Chantal had the opportunity to meet students, board members, the administration and parents. Members of the Salesians for Life club volunteered at Love in Action over the Easter break. Students stocked, sorted and prepped food and clothes to hand out to those in need.

Senior Emilie Adams was presented with the St. Timothy Award by Archbishop Gregory Aymond at the St. Louis Cathedral on April 7. Abby Heitmeier, a senior at Academy of Our Lady, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to service their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. The senior class of 2019 attended their final class retreat on April 12. Senior retreat is a great tradition at Academy of Our Lady. Sophomore Megan O'Brien and junior Ellie Green spent the day at the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, on February 16, attending a teen workshop directed by Dr. Lenny DeLorenzo, a professor at the University of Notre Dame. He shared skills from his book Witness: Learning to Tell the Stories of Grace that Illumine Our Lives. He also encouraged students to formulate and tell their own faith stories. Gospel Roads is a week-long service retreat where students have the opportunity to give back to the community and experience God’s love through serving others. On this retreat during July 6-13, participants will have the opportunity to meet new people and make long lasting friendships all the while growing closer to God. The Ambassadors attended Mass with other elementary and high schools throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans on February 1 in celebration of Catholic Schools Week. Academy of Our Lady held its annual Grandparents Day on Thursday, November 1. In celebration of All Saints Day, grandparents were invited to campus for mass with their granddaughters. Academy of Our Lady celebrated the Feast of the Assumption with the first school Mass of the year on August 15. During Mass the 2018-19 Eucharistic Ministers were inducted. Seniors study different religions observed throughout the world and in different cultures for a semester. They ended the year visiting a local Buddhist Temple, Muslim Mosque, Jewish Synagogue and Hindu Temple. A world of peace and respect begins with mutual understanding and dialogue. True Love Waits held their annual mass on February 20. Bishop Fernand J. Cheri presided over mass and blessed the rings given to the newest members of True Love Waits. Following the blessing members recited a pledge to live a life based on Christian virtues, especially chastity.

Academy of Our Lady students continued celebrating the Feast of St. John Bosco and Catholic Schools Week by giving back to the community January 30 through February 2. Each day students from each grade level ventured out to different organizations throughout the greater New Orleans metro area to volunteer their time.
