Academy of Our Lady's Theatre II class is proud to present Breaking Barriers: A One Act Play that is a powerful and well-researched depiction of the lives of Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Annie Oakley, Clara Barton and Jane Austen on November 6 at 7:00 pm. Academy of Our Lady Art III students used their imagination and skills to craft masks as part of the annual mask project. Students made a mask that expressed something of their interest or about themselves. Students began by molding clay to form the desired face shape for the mask. Next, they painted and added extra creative pieces of interest to make their project complete. Click the title of this post to view a photo of their completed project.
Theatre and choir classes produced a Christmas Play for family, friends, faculty, staff and the student body. Performances took place December 13 and 16. Students in theatre and choir class were responsible for each component of the production from the script, music, costumes to the performance itself.
The Family and Consumer Science classes baked cupcakes and decorated them in the spirit of the holidays. The girls showcased their creativity with this fun project. Click on the title of this post to view photos.
The Fine Arts Department is pleased to invite you to the Spring Arts Festival on Wednesday, April 10. Student artwork displays will open for viewing at 5:00 pm in the Art and Theatre classrooms. Student musical performances will follow at 7:00 pm. The event flyer was designed by Art Graphics I student senior Abbie Nelson.
Seniors in Art 4 attended a field trip on March 14 to learn the history of the Ninth Ward and desegregation. Students toured the Lower Ninth Ward Living Museum, visited the site of McDonogh #19 school, and spoke with Mrs. Leona Tate, who helped to desegregate schools in the south. Freshman Mindy Harlow, senior Alexia Nguyen and senior Abbey Rodivich volunteered their time and talent to create a piece of art for the Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference. Each student’s design corresponded with the conference theme GO FORTH: That All May Be One. According to the conference website, the Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference offers those involved in catechesis and evangelization in the Catholic Church an opportunity to enhance their ministries and to deepen their commitment to Jesus Christ through.
